Chromosome-scale genome sequences of two Charadriiformes species: Scolopax rusticola and Lymnocryptes minimus
The authors present high-quality genome assemblies of two waders, the Eurasian woodcock and the jack snipe. Illumina and Nanopore sequencing of fresh blood samples, followed by Hi-C data, reconstruct the chromosomes; the data are public in GenBank.
- The question
- Can complete reference genomes be produced for the Eurasian woodcock and the jack snipe?
- The approach
- Illumina and Nanopore sequencing of fresh blood from wild birds, de novo assembly, then integration of Hi-C data to reconstruct chromosome structure.
- What the article brings
- Two high-quality, chromosome-scale assemblies; raw reads and assemblies are available in GenBank.
- The limits
- A resource article: it provides reference genomes for future studies, without population analyses at this stage.
